Blog Post #7
I'm unfortunately unable to find any class websites because it doesn't appear that any school district that I search for doesn't have their teachers make class websites and the few links that I found no longer function. If I try to search for "teacher websites" or "class websites" I'm only given websites containing resources for teachers and not ones for a specific classroom. The best I could find was the staff of Roberts Elementary School all providing a list of their favorite things so their students can get to know them better, much like the "About" page in a teacher website: https://www.leonschools.net/domain/5013
From what I remember from my third grade teacher's website (this was about 15 years ago so my memory is a bit fuzzy), my teacher had a link to her monthly newsletter, announcements regarding any upcoming assignments, and an "About Me" page. Seeing as I was too young to own a computer, the website was more for the parents than anyone else, so they can make sure their child is staying on top of their school work and not lying and saying that no homework was assigned that night. Parents were informed well in advance about any field trips and orientation nights. I do remember that my teacher did use Weebly to make her site.
In the future, I definitely see myself having a class blog that I will update weekly, if not daily. I'll include clear and concise instructions and due dates for assignments to avoid any confusion among students. I will also use Reddit as a tool to ask questions to fellow teachers if I need help with anything. Pinterest also may be useful, giving me project ideas to make class time more engaging and fun.
I don't believe that AI can accurately create lesson plans. The one that I evaluated provided only very basic understanding of the assignment, with no room for critical thinking. It simply asked for students to summarize the text they were given, rather than correctly analyze them. I'd never used Canvas group tools before but if I had to do another project like this I could see myself using it again. It was fairly easy to figure out and navigate.
