Blog Post #5
So far, blogging doesn't seem to be that different form journaling, something I've been doing for years now. A disadvantage to blogging, however, (at least within the context of this class) is that I feel limited as to what I can write. I'm responding to prompts more than I am getting my feelings out. I love writing but so far blogging seems to lack some of the passion that the craft normally holds.
I am firmly against Generative A.I. and am very concerned at how it is seemingly going to become a staple of human life. As a future educator, I feel that I'll have my work cut out for me, seeing as the younger generations are overly reliant on generative A.I. and critical thinking is less emphasized. Now that students can just ask Chat GPT to summarize a book that they find too difficult or even write an essay on said book, it brings forth an alarming realization that Artificial Intelligence is seeming to overwrite human intelligence.
I was exempt from using Generative A.I. for the padlet assignment. I could not in good faith use a software that is harmful to the environment, creators, and general human intellect. Even using A.I. simply to criticize its accuracy is still using A.I. I know I may be coming across as overly cynical, but in my heart I know that A.I. is something that does far more harm than good and using it would go against my morals.
I will not be using Generative A.I. when teaching. I plan to give a lecture the first day of class as to why A.I. usage will not be tolerated in my class. I will take measures to ensure that it is harder for students to get away with using A.I. and passing off the work as their own. A lot of companies are pushing for A.I. to overtake the creative industry and phase out artists altogether. I want to educate future generations that we need to push back.
