In using Pinterest and Instagram to expand my PLN, I have learned a lot. I use Instagram quite a lot but I've never really used Pinterest until just now. It is super helpful following other teachers' boards and inspires me to maybe create my own someday. Both social media platforms do a good job at hosting a community for teachers, making them feel more connected. Growing up in the Leon Country Public School system, they weren't exactly stingy with their technology budget but they also didn't spend a whole lot. We didn't have personal assigned laptops, but rather a cart in each classroom with some cheap Acers that didn't work half the time. As Microsoft 365 (or Office 365, as it used to be called) was just starting out, I had to adapt to use more modern technology, as the word processer I was using before was Word 2007. I learned how to use the cloud and how useful it is to have notes and projects saved on the cloud rather than locally. I think social annotatio...

As you know, I'm an aspiring filmmaker. I am especially interested in the history of film. One of my favorite filmmakers is Charlie Chaplin! Here's a picture of him: Source: Unknown photographer, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

I think with the rise of computer dependency in schools alongside the push that companies seem to be making towards generative AI, academic dishonesty grows easier and easier to get away with. If I were to teach a classroom, I'd have the students write a personal essay using pencil and paper once a month so I'd get a grasp of each student's writing style and compare it to their digital assignments and see if the styles match up. If the styles are drastically different, I'd grow suspicious of AI usage and do further investigating. AI checkers aren't always accurate so I feel like this would be a more foolproof solution. I've heard of copyright/fair use in the past. When I make powerpoint presentations in the future, I'll make sure to credit the creator of the images or quotes I use after making sure that they fall under fair use. I'll also make sure that my students learn about copyright and fair use, possibly showing them the video we were shown in clas...

I've been using MS word for years now because of school. When I was in middle school, all Leon County School students were assigned a Microsoft 365 account that we would continue to use until we graduated high school. I've always preferred Google Docs, though. I'm a writer and all of my stories, from my short stories to the novel I've been working on for years now, are all on my Google Drive. I identify most with ISTE's "Learner" archetype. Even when I (hopefully) become a teacher, I still plan to learn new things every day. I didn't really learn anything I didn't already know from the site, but it was helpful to get a refresher. My PLN will be in use every day, and I will keep up to date on current events. I personally really believe in the "digital native" theory. Having grown up around technology, I certainly feel I have a better grasp of it than the older generations. I've been frustrated in the past with teachers not knowing how...

Welcome to my Blog! My goal for this class is to learn how to use various technologies to further my teaching ability in the future. I'm not the best at technology so I'm super excited to learn. When I eventually become a teacher, I want to make a fun online presence that my students can enjoy. Using tools like blogger could be very helpful for classroom updates and the like. My prior classroom technology experience is using things such as school laptops throughout the years. When I was in 4th grade, my elementary school got Smartboards for every classroom. In 5th grade, iPads were introduced. In middle school, we got school laptops. It was really cool being part of the test groups for all of these technological advancements so the schools could fine tune any issues we encountered in the future. My current Personal Learning Network mostly involves the Internet and books. In my spare time I like to learn about the making of movies and the practical effects involved before CGI. ...
